When Should You Book an Electrical Safety Check?
There’s no single trigger — but these are the most common situations where a safety inspection makes sense:
- You’re buying a home. An electrical inspection before settlement gives you a clear picture of the condition of the wiring, switchboard, and safety devices. It can identify issues that affect the value of the property or require urgent attention after you move in.
- You’re selling a home. A pre-sale inspection lets you identify and address any issues before they become a buyer’s negotiating point. It also demonstrates that the property has been well maintained.
- Your home is more than 25 years old. Many homes in the Hills District and Hawkesbury were built in the 1980s and 1990s. Wiring, switchboards, and safety devices from that era may no longer meet current standards.
- You’re planning a renovation. Before any significant electrical work is carried out, it’s worth knowing the condition of the existing system. Issues found during a renovation cost more to fix mid-project.
- Something doesn’t feel right. Flickering lights, tripping circuits, a burning smell, warm power points, or appliances behaving erratically are all warning signs that warrant a professional inspection.
- You haven’t had an inspection in a long time. If you can’t remember the last time your electrical system was checked, it’s overdue.
